Calhoun is a two-time Grammy Award–winning drummer and founding member of the iconic, genre-bending rock band Living Colour. A Berklee College of Music graduate and recipient of the prestigious Buddy Rich Jazz Masters Award, Calhoun has been celebrated as Best New Drummer and #1 Progressive Drummer (three times) by Modern Drummer readers, and Best Drummer by Rolling Stone critics. With Living Colour, he powered the multi-platinum debut "Vivid", the groundbreaking "Time’s Up" (featuring his acclaimed composition “Pride”), "Stain", "Biscuits", "CollideØscope", "The Chair in the Doorway", and "Shade", earning two Grammy Awards for Best Hard Rock Performance and an International Rock Award for Best Rock Band. A visionary across genres, Calhoun has performed and recorded with legends including B.B. King, Harry Belafonte, Mick Jagger, Wayne Shorter (Grammy-winning High Life), Pharoah Sanders, Jack DeJohnette, Ron Carter, Marcus Miller, Lauryn Hill, Paul Simon, Lou Reed, The Allman Brothers, Mos Def, and Run-DMC, among many others. As a jazz bandleader, his acclaimed releases include "Live at the Blue Note", "Native Lands", "Life in This World", and "Celebrating Elvin Jones", featuring luminaries such as Ron Carter, Christian McBride, Wallace Roney, Bobby Watson, and Pharoah Sanders. He also leads the groundbreaking world-ambient trio Jungle Funk, whose live album received “Album of the Year” honors in Australia, and released the solo projects Housework and Drum Wave. Producer, inventor, global rhythm researcher, and educator, Calhoun serves on the advisory boards of the Bronx Music Heritage Center and The Way of the Rain.
